Understand the case: body of dead boy is thrown into river in Imbé

In the early morning of July 28, 2021Yasmin Vaz dos Santos Rodrigues gave medicine to her son Miguel and placed him in a suitcase.

At the time, in a statement to the police, she said she was not sure whether the child was alive or dead.

According to the case’s delegate, Antonio Carlos Ractz Júnior, “to escape, in fear of the police, [Yasmin] He left the house, taking the inner streets, not the main avenues, took the child in a suitcase to the riverbank, and threw the body. I repeat, she is not convinced that her son was dead.”

Mother reported missing

According to Ractz, “at dusk, the child’s mother, with her partner, sought out the DPPA of Tramandaí, in order to register a police report of her son’s disappearance.”

In the record, she “legated that her son had disappeared two days ago and that she had not yet contacted the police because she searched on Google and saw that she would have to wait 48 hours. And she began to present a series of contradictions, which led to distrust from the Military Brigade and Civil Police”, said the delegate.

Mother and partner involved in crime

The investigation revealed that the mother and her partner, Bruna Nathiele Porto da Rosa, were involved in the crime.

A day later, the prison was converted into preventive and she was sent to the Torres Prison. According to the delegate responsible for the case, Antonio Carlos Ractz, in a statement to the police, the woman confessed to the crime.

Yasmin’s companion, Bruna Nathiele Porto da Rosa, was also accused of the same crimes, answering for murder, torture and hiding a corpse. The two women have been in preventive detention since then.

Since Miguel’s disappearance, firefighters have searched the Tramandaí River looking for the boy’s body. Watercraft, boats, speedboats and a drone were used to identify the most difficult to access places.

The video was found on one of the cell phones seized during the police operation.

Yasmin ended up telling the police that her son was grounded in the closet for about half an hour, and that she had a habit of attacking him as a form of punishment.

During the searches, the police found more evidence of mistreatment. Notebooks as if they were handwriting showed that he was forced to repeat phrases such as “I’m an idiot”, “I don’t deserve the mother I have” and “I’m a thief.”

Two padlocks and a chain were also seized, which were used to chain the child.

In one of the stages of the investigation, the Civil Police revealed searches that had been carried out by Yasmin on her cell phone. During consultations, the boy’s mother sought, in the early hours of July 29, information whether “human fingerprints come out in salty sea water“.

In other research, Yasmin seeks information about heartbeats. Days before, on July 26, she searches the internet for “when the child starts hallucinating, which means?”, as the police explained at the time.

What is the motivation for the crime

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of RS came to the conclusion, based on investigations, that the child was killed because the women considered him an “impediment” to the couple’s life.

“There are elements that say they were looking to form a new family. But that child would not be part of this new family”, reports the case’s prosecutor, André Luiz Tarouco Pinto.
