Municipalities in Minas Gerais that coexist with mining will receive the Encontro Project, between April 2nd and May 26th. The action offers cultural, educational and socio-environmental activities for communities affected by dams in Nova Lima, Barão de Cocais, Igarapé, Mariana and Itatiaiuçu.

The initiative, promoted by the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) and the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG), aims to inform the population about the “Mar de Lama Nunca Mais” Law, which completed five years of enactment in February .

The project consists of carrying out caravans, which will spend two days in each municipality, with free and open programming. Among the confirmed attractions are the band Pato Fu and the circus and theater groups Galpão, Giramundo, Armatrux, Maria Cutia and Trampulim. The initiative also includes sports practices, conversation circles about domestic violence and mental health, exhibitions, environmental education workshops and health services, such as blood pressure measurement and vaccinations.

“We built several activities and actions to promote well-being through art, culture, self-care, knowledge and service provision. Bringing people together around a musical performance or play is a way of promoting this population’s encounter with their own history”, explains Juliana Sevaybricker, the project’s production coordinator.
