MS is the 10th state with the highest installed solar energy capacity in Brazil, says association

Mato Grosso do Sul ranks 10th among the Brazilian states with the highest installed solar energy capacity, according to Absolar (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association). In March 2024, the state reached more than 1 GW (gigawatt) of installed power in its own solar energy generation.

Also according to the association, Mato Grosso do Sul has more than 95 thousand operational solar energy connections on roofs and small plots of land in its 79 municipalities, adding up to 136 thousand electricity consumers.

As a result, since 2012 the modality has generated more than R$5.2 billion in investments, 31 thousand jobs and the collection of more than R$1.3 billion to public coffers.

In the country, solar generation exceeded 28 gigawatts of operational installed power in homes, businesses, industries, rural properties and public buildings. The number represents more than 3.5 million consumer units served by photovoltaic technology.

According to Absolar, around R$139 billion in new investments were attracted thanks to technology, which generated more than 840.3 thousand green jobs accumulated in the period and contributed to the collection of more than R$41.7 billion to the coffers public. In total, 5,545 municipalities already have access to photovoltaic energy.
