To help families and animals from riverside communities in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, the non-profit association It’s Bicho MT is running a campaign to collect basic food baskets in Mato Grosso. According to the entity, the initiative will benefit residents of the Porto Jofre region, in Poconé, 104 km from Cuiabá, and the São Lourenço River.
According to the association, the campaign is part of the Pantanal Single Health Project, which offers assistance to Pantanal riverside dwellers and medical care for the local population’s domestic animals. In actionaround 83 families and more than 180 animals must be cared for.
In addition to basic food baskets, veterinary medicines, food and vaccines will be provided for the care of dogs and cats. The NGO reported that they still need to collect 43 basic food baskets by this Thursday (4). The action is scheduled to start on Friday (5) and end next Monday (8).
Support services and monitoring of the animals’ condition will also be provided, and, if necessary, a castration effort will be planned, according to the association. Information on how to donate is at association website.
The association It’s Bicho MT was founded in 2015 through the collaboration of a group of friends concerned with animal protection. The entity’s initial objective was to help domestic animals in vulnerable situations, often victims of abandonment or mistreatment, especially dogs and cats in the Cuiabá region.
As of 2020, the association expanded its work to also include the protection of wild fauna in Mato Grosso, with a special focus on the Pantanal. This implied developing simultaneous actions to meet the needs of both domestic and wild animals.
