Heavy rain caused damage in Nova Serrana, in the Center-West of Minas Gerais, this Tuesday (April 2). In one of the incidents in the city, with just over 100 thousand inhabitants, a flood swept away a truck, which was stopped on the street. There is no information on injuries.

The city’s Civil Defense reported that it is surveying the affected areas. In case of emergency, the population should call the Fire Department by calling 193. To speak to Civil Defense, call 199.

Care during the rain:

  • Avoid leaving the house: if possible, stay in a safe place during heavy rain.
  • If you need to leave: Wear a raincoat and appropriate footwear to avoid falls.
  • Drive carefully: Pay extra attention when driving on wet streets and avoid flooded areas.
  • Keep an eye out for falling trees and other objects: stay away from risk areas.
  • Don’t take shelter under trees: There is a risk of falling branches and electrical discharges.
  • Avoid flooded areas: the water current can be strong and lead to accidents.
  • Do not cross areas with water: the depth may be greater than it appears and there is a risk of holes and other hazards.
  • Turn off electrical appliances: avoid the risk of short circuit and damage to equipment.
  • Seek shelter in a safe place: If you are outdoors, seek shelter in a building or closed space.
