The Government of Paraíba, through the State Department of Health (SES), distributed the remaining dengue vaccine and carried out, this Tuesday (2), a technical alignment with the 10 new municipalities that received the vaccine. 6,187 doses were sent, based on the population aged 10 to 14 in the covered territories.

According to the head of the SES Immunization Center, Márcia Mayara, this decision was made due to the low coverage of three municipalities that received doses in February and the Ministry of Health’s signaling of 10 new territories capable of receiving unused doses in the first delivery. . She explained that the transferring municipalities still had doses to continue carrying out vaccination actions.

“It is important to emphasize that these are not new doses received. These are doses that were relocated from municipalities that had low vaccination coverage, with low doses applied in the information system. We collected part of the doses and have already distributed them to the 10 municipalities that were signaled through a technical note from the Ministry of Health”, he pointed out.

Márcia Mayara reported that on Tuesday afternoon a technical alignment was carried out with immunization coordinators from the municipalities of Cajazeiras, Sousa, Itabaiana, Alagoa Grande, Princesa Isabel, Aroeiras, Esperança, Guarabira, Campina Grande and Pombal. During the agenda, the SES technical area spoke about the vaccination schedule, route of administration, precautions, contraindications, dose recording, vaccination strategies and vaccine conservation.

The first batch of the dengue vaccine (Qdenga), with 37,040 doses, sent by the Ministry of Health (MS), arrived in Paraíba in February this year. The doses were distributed by SES to the 1st Health Region of Paraíba. The criteria for choosing the locations were population size, number of dengue cases in the last 10 years and the number of type 2 dengue cases in these places. The scheme is two doses with a three-month interval between them. The vaccine protects against dengue fever caused by serotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Aedes aegypti virus.
