The fraud, which lasted an unspecified period, caused a loss of more than R$1 million to Correios. Among the diverted products were electronic devices such as computers, cell phones and notebooks, as well as items such as Cuban cigars.
To date, nine people have been arrested and 18 have been indicted for various crimes, including qualified theft, qualified reception, criminal organization, money laundering, international drug trafficking and clandestine use of radio transceivers.
In a note, Correios reported that it contacted public security agencies after identifying suspicious activities by outsourced companies. The company also highlighted that it is monitoring the case and will take appropriate administrative measures.
To monitor the status of deliveries, Correios advises customers to use the tracking system available on the company’s website or application. In the event of theft or loss of packages, it is necessary to register a complaint through the company’s customer service channels to request an investigation and possible compensation.
The PF emphasizes that the damage caused by the gang is not limited to the Post Office, but extends to the entire population, who pay for a service that is not delivered properly.
