In the early hours of this Tuesday (2), in Aracaju, at the age of 64, journalist and columnist Thais Bezerra died. She had been admitted to a private hospital for two days due to lung cancer, which she had been fighting for nine years. The information was confirmed by the Union of Professional Journalists of the State of Sergipe (Sindijor).
The wake will take place at her home, starting at 10am. The burial will take place at 4pm, at Cemitério Santa Isabel, in the capital.
Thaís Bezerra had been working at Jornal da Cidade for around 45 years. According to Sindijor, over the last five decades, he assumed prominence “as a result of his highest functional qualifications, especially in the social columnist editorship.”
A reference for countless generations of professionals, even in the 1980s, it revolutionized the way of producing and publishing society notebooks. “With a welcoming attitude, she leaves a legacy of dedication and love for her respective professional activities.”
Personalities and politicians mourned the columnist’s death. The mayor of Aracaju, Edvaldo Nogueira (PSD), wrote:
“The most important name in social columnism in Sergipe, Thaís has built a long history of success for more than 45 years, maintaining to this day a section that bears his name in Jornal da Cidade. To his family, friends and readers, my sincere condolences.”
Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT) highlighted his passion for communication: “We regret the passing of Thaís Bezerra, an icon of journalism and social columnism in SE. His passion for communication leaves an irreparable gap in the state’s press and society. May his legacy endure to inspire future generations. Rest in peace.”
The Sergipe Sanitation Company, where Thais worked as an administrative assistant since 1980, also released a note of condolence.
