Public security forces continue to close in on the disturbance of other people’s peace caused by the abusive use of sound. Eleven sound equipment was seized over the Easter weekend during the Na Base do Sossego operation, coordinated by the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and the Metropolitan Region Policing Command (CPRM). In total, more than 50 seizures were recorded in the first quarter of the year.
The materials were seized by teams in the neighborhoods of Benedito Bentes and Vergel do Lago, in Maceió, and in Marechal Deodoro, in the Metropolitan Region of the Capital. There were four seizures in bars and four in residences, in addition to three after approaches to vehicles with walls. In addition to the seizures, fines for vehicle infractions were issued due to irregularities found on the three days of operation – Friday (29), Saturday (30) and Sunday (31).
Garrisons from the 1st, 4th, 5th, 12th and 13th Military Police Battalions, Traffic Police Battalion (BPTran) and the 4th Independent Company (CPM/I), in addition to the SSP Intelligence Service, participated in the operation.
In total, the SSP Head of Prevention Policy Coordination, which supervises the operation, recorded 54 seizures of sound equipment in the two municipalities in the first three months of 2024, 37 of which were in March alone. Since the integrated action was initiated by the department in 2022, 366 materials have been seized, most of them in the neighborhoods of Jacintinho, Cidade Universitária, Benedito Bentes and Clima Bom. Vergel do Lago is the one that records the most incidents with 126, according to with the survey.
According to the head of Community Police, Head of Prevention Policy Coordination, Captain Alex Acioli, continued action has helped to reduce crimes against life. According to him, before seizures, community visits are carried out, which reached 158 in the first quarter of this year, to alert people about the appropriate infraction and penalties.
“The preventive and repressive work we have carried out against disturbing the peace, which for many is something trivial, allows us to have safer cities and record fewer and fewer homicides, since many incidents of this type of crime can be triggered by a fight after irregular use of sound equipment. By ensuring greater peace of mind, we were able to reduce the rates of violent deaths in the state,” said the official.
