The airline Voepass Linhas Aéreas, formerly Passaredo, decided to suspend flight lines to six cities in Bahia for an indefinite period.

In a note sent to the press this Monday (1st), the company said that the suspension is due to a restructuring of its airline network.

However, the route that connects Barreiras, in the southwest of the state, to Brasília was maintained.

Takeoffs take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, leaving the federal capital at 12:20 pm, with a scheduled landing at 1:50 pm in Barreiras. The return journey departs from the municipality of western Bahia at 4pm and arrives in Brasília at 5:30pm.

At the time, the company also justified restructuring its airline network.

Problems at Barreiras airport

The last flight on the Salvador – Barreiras route took off on Saturday (30) amid complaints from residents. Before that, the Azul company had canceled other flights to the interior city, citing operational issues.

As reported by TV Oeste, a TV Bahia affiliate in the region, such suspensions reflect a process of reduction in the availability of flights at the local airport.

According to the equipment administration, from January to March this year, 17 flights to Barreiras were cancelled. The number exceeds the record for the whole of last year, when 12 flights were canceled.

A major hub in the region, Barreiras hosts the Federal University of West Baiano (Ufob) and the largest agricultural technology fair in the north and northeast, the Bahia Farm Show. The city is also one of the agribusiness centers in the country.

In the midst of this, the Bahia Infrastructure Secretariat (Seinfra) informed that the airport requalification and expansion projects were delivered by the department to the National Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC) in November 2023. The national department responded last Wednesday ( 27) and Seinfra will carry out a return analysis.

“Regarding the Passenger Terminal project and air navigation aid equipment, delivery for evaluation by SAC was rescheduled for the month of April this year due to updates to the infrastructure part,” said Seinfra in a note sent to press.

According to the state secretariat, the beginning of the bidding process depends on the approval of the projects by the federal agency.
