The Federal Highway Police registered 1,599 fines for drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol (or who refused to take a breathalyzer test) during the Holy Week holiday. The mark is more than double the 740 fines registered in the same period in 2023.

The numbers were released this Monday (1st) and comprise the occurrences of the operation, which began in the early hours of last Thursday (28th). The PRF inspected more than 59 thousand vehicles and recorded more than 44 thousand traffic violations.

The PRF also recorded a 48.6% increase in drivers fined for speeding, with 28,301 cases this year compared to 19,051 last year.

According to the corporation, policing was reinforced at strategic points on federal highways, and there was a reduction of 11.5% in the number of deaths, and a 17.3% reduction in the number of injuries during the holiday.

Fines for using a cell phone while driving increased by 84% this year, with 435 drivers fined. In 2023, there were 236 fines.

59 vehicles were collected due to irregularities (documents or theft/theft records).

Drug seizure

According to the PRF, during the period, 2.7 tons of marijuana and 567 kg of cocaine were seized, in addition to 12 firearms removed from circulation. In total, 337 people were detained.
