Seven people died and at least 32 were injured after being hit by a minibus, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes (PE), in Greater Recife, on Sunday afternoon (31). The victims took part in a procession organized by the Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro Parish, in the Marcos Freire neighborhood, where the accident happened.
The Metropolitan Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) reported that four victims had died. This Monday morning (1st), the Pernambuco State Health Department (SES-PE) confirmed another four deaths and released the total number of injured treated in the state public health network.
Among the dead, there are four men aged between 51 and 75; a 21-year-old woman and two people whose age and sex were not disclosed. The full names of the victims were also not revealed.

By the end of the morning, of the 32 injured, 15 remained hospitalized and under observation – including four in serious condition – and 11 had already been discharged. In addition to these, six patients initially treated at the Ibura Emergency Care Unit (UPA) had to be transferred to the Restauração and Dom Hélder hospitals.
According to the Jaboatão dos Guararapes city hall, the minibus was on the Marcos Freire-Barra de Jangada line. “The information gathered so far, at the scene, is that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle when going down a slope on Avenida Barreto de Menezes, he still avoided the vehicles, but hit the faithful”, informed the city hall, in note.
According to the Executive Secretariat for Public Order and Mobility, the vehicle is in good condition, having been inspected by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) around five months ago. The documentation for the minibus and the driver, whose name was not disclosed, are also in order. The city hall declared three days of mourning.
