Brothers drown in the Vaza-Barris River, in Itaporanga D’Ajuda | Sergipe

A 14-year-old teenager and his 19-year-old brother died after drowning in the Vaza-Barris River, in the municipality of Itaporanga D’Ajuda, on Sunday afternoon (31). The body of the youngest was rescued by members of the public during the night and that of the young man was found by agents from the Military Fire Department on the morning of this Monday (1st).

According to family members, they were in a group of friends when the teenager began to drown and his brother tried to help him, but also ended up drowning.

This year, ten drowning deaths occurred in Sergipe, two this past weekend. In addition to the victim in Itaporanga D’Ajuda, an 18-year-old young man died at Praia dos Artistas, in Aracaju. He was with a 17-year-old teenager, who was rescued alive by firefighters and with the help of a fishing boat passing by, which has a risk warning for swimming.

According to the Fire Department, to avoid accidents, it is essential to follow safety guidelines, such as observing and respecting signs and flags that indicate danger for bathing. Look:

• Bathing must be done with a safety margin, which is at most up to the navel line;
• Pay extra attention to children;
• After drinking alcohol, the advice is not to enter the water, as alcohol in the blood reduces resistance and swimming ability;
• If you need help, call the nearest lifeguard. Firefighters can also be notified of incidents by calling 193 or via the Integrated Public Security Operations Center (Ciosp), on phone 190. Ciosp operators have direct contact with the CBMSE.
