Three people, all from Sergipe, died in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a trailer. The accident happened this Thursday (28) on BR-242 between Salvador and the Bahian city of Wanderley. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident and the road was wet and slippery. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
The frontal collision was very violent, almost completely destroying the truck. The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Federal Highway Police, who closed the road and helped rescue teams in helping the victim and removing the bodies.
The driver, the only survivor of this tragedy, is the lawyer Yamanni Teixeira Novaes, 39 years old. He was taken to Ibotirama hospital and then transferred to the city of Barreiras, in a delicate state of health.
The fatal victims of the accident are:
Maria Aparecida Teixeira Novaes, 72 years old, retired professor from the Federal Institute of Sergipe, mother of the driver and widow of also federal professor João Batista Alves Novaes;
Cecília Rufino dos Santos, 70 years old, friend of the driver’s family;
José Alexandre da Silva Freitas, 50 years old, friend of the driver and resident in Aracaju.
The bodies are at the IML in the city of Bom Jesus da Lapa, where they were autopsied.
After completing the legal formalities, they will be transferred to Aracaju, where they will be buried. There is still no information about the day, place and time of the burials.
