A fire broke out in a building under construction in the Torre neighborhood, west of Recife, on Thursday night (28). According to the Pernambuco Military Fire Department, there is still no information about victims.

For safety reasons, Neoenergia, the energy concessionaire that serves the region, reported that it had preventively disconnected the electrical network in the vicinity of the building. “Teams from the distributor remain in the location assisting the work of the Fire Department. Service in the area will be immediately restored as soon as there are safe conditions for the population”, informed the company.

The mayor of Recife, João Campos, said that he activated the Recife Operations Center (COP) to monitor the effects caused by the fire. “Our teams, including the Civil Defense, work to support the Firefighters to block access to the streets and areas close to the site. I will continue to monitor this situation from here at Recife City Hall, together with the coordinators of the teams that are working”, said the mayor on social media.

The vice-governor of Pernambuco, Priscila Krause, also spoke out saying that all the state’s operational forces, through the Fire Department, Military Police and Civil Defense, are working to fight the fire, to guarantee the lives of the local population. “I continue to follow all developments together with the Pernambuco Government team to ensure everyone’s safety”, she informed.
