The Civil Registry Statistics Survey, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released last Wednesday (27), shows that marriages in Acre are the least lasting in the country. In the state, marriage unions last an average of 10.5 years until divorce. The Brazilian average is 13.8 years of marriage until the end of the union.

Piauí is the state where marriages last the longest in the country. In Rio de Janeiro, for example, they usually last 13.4 years, below the national average. São Paulo too: marriages take 13 years on average to end.

The survey also revealed the average age of divorce in each state. Women divorce earlier than men: 41 years. Men, on average, divorce at age 44. Acre is also, together with Mato Grosso do Sul, the state where men divorce the earliest, at 42.9 years old.

Women also get divorced earlier in Acre, at 39.3 years of age. Men stay married longer in Rio Grande do Sul, at 46.8 years, and women from Rio Grande do Sul are the oldest when separating, on average, at 43.7 years.
