Civil Police locate 123 kilos of crack, largest seizure of the drug in the history of RS

The Civil Police announced, this Thursday, that it made the largest seizure of crack in the history of the institution in Rio Grande do Sul. 123 kilos of the drug were seized, in addition to another 59 kilos of cocaine, in the Metropolitan region. The action was coordinated by the 2nd DP of Gravataí, after two months of investigations.

According to the institution, the drugs originate in Paraguay or Bolivia. The suspicion is that the international trafficking scheme is coordinated by a faction based in Vale do Sinos.

“Crack is a difficult drug to seize in large quantities. This is because traffickers usually divide it into several smaller portions for sale. However, thanks to the work of the 2nd DP of Gravataí and the integrated effort of the Security agencies, we obtained success in carrying out the biggest seizure in the history of RS”, highlighted the Chief of Police, Delegate Fernando Sodré.

The seizure occurred at km 10, on RS 287, in Montenegro, on Wednesday. On that occasion, a couple who were driving a truck loaded with bales of rice were approached. The drugs were hidden among the shipment.

120 bricks of crack and another 54 of cocaine were found. The couple was arrested red-handed for drug trafficking and association with drug trafficking. The seizure generated losses of more than RS 4.5 million for organized crime.

“It was a severe blow to drug trafficking. When purchased wholesale, a kilo of crack costs an average of R$20,000 and a kilo of cocaine, R$30,000. The value of these drugs, when sold at retail, is multiplied” , said the director of the 1st Metropolitan Regional DP, delegate Rodrigo Bozzetto.

According to delegate Joel Wagner, who coordinated the investigation, the cargo left the North of Rio Grande do Sul bound for Canoas. Once they were delivered, the toxic substances would supply trafficking points in other municipalities in the Metropolitan region and in the Capital.

“We were able to identify another suspect, who has not yet been arrested and would be responsible for commanding large-scale drug distribution in the Metropolitan region. He is one of the targets of the investigation”, stated the chief delegate of the 2nd Precinct of Gravataí.

Joel Wagner also emphasized that the seizure of crack prevents the occurrence of other related crimes. “Crack is a drug with high destructive potential, which addicts users and leads them to commit robberies. That’s why when we make seizures like this, we also prevent other crimes from occurring,” he said.
