Once again, small businesses were the protagonists in the generation of new jobs created in January 2024 in Tocantins. According to the study carried out by Sebrae, based on data from the General Register of Employment and Unemployment (Caged), micro and small companies account for 82.58% (1,195) of the 1,447 new hires that the State carried out in the first month of this year. year.

According to Sebrae, the sectors that generate the most jobs are concentrated in the construction of buildings, social sports clubs and restaurants.

When comparing data from 2024 with the same period in 2023, there was an increase of approximately 22.4% in the balance of hiring. There were 1,447 new hires in January 2024 compared to 1,182 new hires in the same period last year.

Also in January this year, the Services sector led the creation of jobs. Among MSEs there were 623 new vacancies. Other sectors such as Commerce (177) and Construction (164) stood out among micro and small companies, with none of them having a negative balance during this period.

According to Bruno Vila Verde, analyst responsible for Sebrae’s Institutional Intelligence Office, this year, one of the institution’s main goals is to serve approximately 40 thousand small businesses, in addition to promoting and solidifying the development of these companies. “The institution offers courses, workshops, lectures and training focused on entrepreneurship, with the aim of helping enterprises and especially those who dream of opening their own business to manage efficiently and profitably”, he highlights.

Across the country, small businesses accounted for 8 in every 10 jobs created in the economy in 2023. Year-to-date, Brazil achieved a balance of 1.48 million new hires, which resulted in the lowest level of unemployment recorded since 2020 Of this total, MSEs created 1.18 million jobs (80.1%) and medium and large companies accounted for 209.99 thousand vacancies, equivalent to 14.2% of the total.

For the president of Sebrae, Décio Lima, the study proves the fundamental importance that small businesses have for the economy and the Brazilian population. “Small businesses are the main engine of our economy and are responsible for the survival of 86.5 million Brazilians, which is equivalent to approximately 40% of the country’s population”, he comments.

Architect and urban planner Fernando Neri Silva is among the examples of those who undertake the construction of buildings in Palmas. Since 2004, he has run a micro-company with two employees and dozens of hires that started at the beginning of the year. He believes that growth in the area is related to increasing involvement in interior design projects, creating spaces that provide pleasant and functional experiences for a capital that is still new. “This is a reality that makes us happy, not only for economic reasons, but the particular impact that makes these people’s lives better.
