Defendant for money laundering, misrepresentation and use of false documents, Jair Renan Bolsonaro, son “04” of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), stated on social media that he had exchanged Rio de Janeiro, his family’s electoral stronghold, for Santa Catarina because the population of the state where they currently live is hardworking and honest. He also stated that he was “from Santa Catarina by choice”.
“Do you know why they speak so badly about Santa Catarina? Because we are a hard-working, honest people. That’s why I left Rio de Janeiro and came here”, stated Jair Renan in a video published on his Instagram on Wednesday morning (27), when talking about the affiliation with the PL to be a candidate for City Council in Balneário Camboriú (SC).
Renan Bolsonaro Bolsonaro criticized, in the same video, councilor Eduardo Zanatta (PT-SC), because of an event, where Father Júlio Lancelotti was given an award from the Instituto Humaniza Santa Catarina for “those who fight on the side of democracy and defend human rights.”
Jair Renan and his mother lived in a mansion in Brasília, before SC
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Jair Renan lived in Brasília during his father’s four-year term as President of the Republic. He and his mother, Ana Cristina Valle, Jair Bolsonaro’s ex-wife, occupied a mansion valued at R$3.2 million and located in Lago Sul, the most upscale neighborhood in the capital.
A lawyer, Ana Cristina worked as an advisor to the then federal deputy Celina Leão (PP-DF) – today vice-governor of the DF -, with a net salary of R$6,200. The rent for houses neighboring that of the president’s ex-wife and son was around R$15,000 per month. Ana Cristina paid R$8,000, which would be incompatible with her income.
Before moving to Brasília, mother and son lived in a 70 square meter apartment in Rio de Janeiro, which is in the name of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro’s son ’04’ has a position in the PL senator’s office
Ana Cristina tried to be elected district deputy, but she did not have enough votes and left Brasília after her defeat at the polls. Jair Renan left the capital after his father’s term ended. In February 2023, he moved to Balneário Camboriú.
The following month, Bolsonaro senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) appointed Jair Renan to a full parliamentary assistant position in his office, with remuneration of R$7,600 – net value (after discounts) plus food allowance. But the former president’s son “04” would not need to work in Brasília. He was assigned to a senator’s office in Balneário Camboriú.
Jair Renan is accused of money laundering, ideological falsehood and use of a false document
On Monday (25), the Court of Justice of the Federal District made Jair Renan a defendant and five other people for the crimes of money laundering, misrepresentation and use of a false document. The decision was issued by the 5th Criminal Court of the Federal District and concerns the investigation into obtaining bank loans in the name of an events company.
saccording to the Public Ministry of the Federal District, Jair Renan’s company, RB Eventos e Mídia, presented false figures, which indicated revenue of R$4.6 million between 2021 and 2022, to a financial institution to back the loans. The investigation shows that three transactions were formalized in the name of RB. The first was around R$157 thousand, the second was R$250 thousand and the third was R$291 thousand.
According to investigators, Renan would have used part of the amounts raised from these financial operations to pay the company’s credit card bills. The suspects allegedly forged business information, including the alleged makeup of the company’s revenue, using data from accountants without the consent of these professionals.
Jair Bolsonaro said he was not sure about his son’s innocence “04”
In 2022, then-president Jair Bolsonaro said he was not sure about his son 04’s innocence in the face of investigations and placed responsibility on his ex-wife, Jair Renan’s mother. She stated that her son had been away from him “for a long time” and that she didn’t know if she was right or wrong.
Lawyer Admar Gonzaga, who defends Jair Renan, stated that he was the victim of a scam mounted by a person, who only later became known to the police and the courts. According to him, everything will be clarified during the process, in which the defense will present evidence and reasons in this regard. However, Gonzaga did not name that person.
If Jair Renan is elected, the Bolsonaro family will have another member in an elected position. In addition to Eduardo in the Chamber, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) is a senator and Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), a councilor. The two were elected by Rio de Janeiro, the political stronghold of the Bolsonarist clan. For now, Laura, 13 years old, is Bolsonaro’s only daughter who is out of politics.
