Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) wants the “Trilhas do Futuro” project, which offers vocational education to students from Minas Gerais, to be considered by the federal government within the proposal presented by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, which proposes to reduce debts of States that invest more resources in technical education.

“In Minas Gerais, we have already learned this lesson. Trilhas do Futuro has more than 140 thousand students taking courses and also receiving food assistance and transportation assistance. What we hope is that this homework, which we have already done, will have weight in the balance for this reduction in the interest rate”, highlighted the governor after ending meetings with ministers from the Lula government in Brasília.

Zema held two days of meetings in the federal capital. He arrived in Brasília on Tuesday (26) to participate in the meeting in which minister Fernando Haddad presented his counterproposal to the project presented by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), to renegotiate the debts of Minas Gerais and the states with the Union.

Haddad’s proposal is an alternative to the Fiscal Recovery Regime (RRF) so that States can renegotiate their debts.

The idea links the reduction of real interest rates, that is, above inflation, which is currently 4%, to the increase in enrollment in technical secondary education; Furthermore, it allows the amortization of up to 20% of the debt stock. Named “Interest for Education”, the program provides for States to join according to three different interest levels, ranging from 2% to 3%..

The government of Minas Gerais is trying to ensure that vocational secondary education, offered through Trilhas and not linked to secondary education, is considered when calculating the interest reduction and also defends that the investment already made in the program, which amounts to around R$1 .5 billion, also be included.

This Wednesday (27) Governor Romeu Zema participated in another meeting with federal government ministers, this time to address the reduction of deforestation in the cerrado. In addition to Zema, there were the governors of Maranhão, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Tocantins.

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, coordinated the agenda alongside the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva. Also participating in the agenda were the ministers of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro; of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, and of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos.

The ministerial team’s concern was to show that the advancement of international trade in Brazilian agricultural products is linked to the preservation of the environment.
“President Lula made intense international agendas, which culminated in the opening of 100 new markets for our agriculture, and raised global concerns and demands on the issue of sustainability,” said Rui Costa.

In this sense, the minister invited each governor to participate in the task force to combat illegal deforestation in the Cerrado. “We are going to unify our systems, integrate our databases so that our producers have security and the necessary support to access new markets and new investors”, said Costa.

Minister Marina Silva said that the country will work to increase production through productivity gains. “The world is placing the issue of sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity as part of its strategic agenda and, in this sense, we will work to ensure that these prerequisites are met”, he highlighted when highlighting the climate challenges that lie ahead.

Governor Romeu Zema did not give interviews after the meeting.
