Book about experiences in the prison system brings together authors from different areas

The book ‘Women who make it happen in the Paraíba Penitentiary System’, which brings together texts written by women who work in the different segments of the Paraíba Penitentiary System, was launched this Wednesday (27) at the Ariano Suassuna Cultural Space, in João Pessoa, in honor of Women’s Month. The authors are criminal police officers, including managers, researchers and operational staff, as well as professionals in the areas of Education, Health, Social Assistance and Communication. The launch took place during the II Paraíba Prison System Seminar.

Eliane Aquino, operational manager for people deprived of liberty at the Department of Education, explains that this is a historic moment as it is an action between several departments. “I report on my successful experiences, the victories, the pedagogical repertoires, the integration with the police. All these experiences are in my text”, says Eliane.

Josélio Carneiro, journalist and criminal police officer, creator of the book, says that he thought about writing a book bringing together criminal police officers as many write theses, TCCs, scientific articles and then included all the professionals who work in the prison system including teachers, psychologists, social workers , nurses and also judge Conceição de Lourdes. “In total there are 33 authors who talk about various topics linked to the prison system”, he explains. “It’s an unprecedented book in the country,” he adds.

The Secretary of State for the Penitentiary Administration of Paraíba (SEAP-PB), João Alves, highlighted the importance of the launch event taking place during women’s month and also highlighted the role of the authors, women who work in the prison system. “It is a very important initiative to bring together these texts about the experiences of women who work directly in the State’s penitentiary system”, points out the secretary.

Josélia de Souza Ferreira, EJA prison teacher at the Pombal public prison, one of the authors of the book and winner of the Masters in Education award with a resocialization project ‘The Other Side of the Coin’ spoke of the satisfaction of launching the book. “As soon as I entered the prison system, eight years ago, I broke a taboo, as I was the first woman to teach and develop projects”, she explains. “This is a very important work as it values ​​the work of women in this field”, highlights Josélia.

The work ‘Women who make things happen in the Paraíba Penitentiary System’ is organized by Josélio Carneiro, Mazukyevicz Silva, Cizia Romeu.
