‘Taylor Swift Law’: Chamber approves ‘anti-exchange’ project that curbs practice at concerts and sporting events | Policy

The Chamber approved this Wednesday (24) a project that criminalizes digital exchangenicknamed “Taylor Swift Law”, after problems with sales for the singer’s shows in Brazil (read more below). Now, the text goes to the Senate.

According to the project, anyone who sells or displays tickets for sale at a price higher than that announced by the event itself will be subject to imprisonment for one to two years and a fine corresponding to 50 times the value of the ticket.

The project was presented in June last year by deputy Pedro Aihara (Patriota-MG), days after fans of singer Taylor Swift suffered from practice. On the occasion, which moved fans across the country, scalpers were arrested on the occasion.

The objective of the project is curb the practice of money changerswho buy tickets in quantity to resell for higher prices than the official ones.

In the case of Swift’s concert, scalpers even offered tickets for up to R$12 thousand reais, when the official values ​​were no more than R$1 thousand, in the most expensive modalities.

“Regarding the classification of the crime of ‘currency exchange’, we consider the legislative change to be opportune and convenient”, stated the rapporteur, deputy Luiz Gastão (PSD-CE).

According to the text approved by the Chamber, in the case of those who supply, divert or facilitate distribution of tickets — for the scalper — with a value higher than that offered by the event may face one to three years in prison, and a fine of 100 times the value of the ticket.

  • The supplier may be the individual, director, administrator, manager or employee of the entity that promotes, allows or in any way approves the supply.

In cases of ticket forgerythe expected penalty is one to two years in prison and fine up to 100 times the ticket price.
