The Organized Crime Combat Management launched Operation Safe Transport, on Tuesday (04/30), to serve five arrest warrants against members of a criminal organization that steals cargo on highways in Mato Grosso. The warrants were served in Várzea Grande (MT) and Londrina (PR).

The investigation, which had the support of the Guarantã do Norte Regional Police Station and the Marcelândia Police Station, began after the recording of a cargo theft, with restriction of the victim’s freedom, which occurred at the end of January in the city of Marcelândia, in the north of state.

The police investigation into the robbery, compounded by the use of a firearm, involving people and restricting the victim’s freedom, identified the participation of eight criminals.

The prison in the state of Paraná had the support of the 10th Police Subdivision and the Londrina Vehicle Theft and Theft Police Station. The arrested criminal was staying at a hotel in the city.

Highway robbery

At the time of the crime, the victim was held by the criminals for 48 hours. It was 10 am on January 26th and the driver of a Volvo truck was traveling through Marcelândia, when one of the criminals simulated asking for a ride to a farm in the region.

When he was inside the truck, the criminal asked the victim to stop at a certain location and said that that would be his destination. When the vehicle stopped, one of the accomplices, armed with a gun, entered the truck and announced the robbery. Afterwards, another criminal took over driving the vehicle and put the victim on the bed, inside the passenger compartment with his face covered. A few kilometers later, the driver was removed from the truck and taken to captivity in the woods, where he was held by the criminals for two days.

Meanwhile, part of the criminal group supported the action in other vehicles. One of them was used in logistics and a second vehicle to take a person to the truck and deactivate the tracker.

The GCCO team identified that one of the vehicles used in the robbery was rented, making it possible to initially identify three criminals responsible for renting and paying the rent. During the investigation, the Civil Police discovered five other criminals, three of whom were women, involved in the theft of the cargo.

The stolen vehicle and cargo were recovered during the investigation.
