Car disappears in flood in ES and owner asks for help finding objects in the trunk

A car disappeared after being swept away by floodwaters (watch above) which hit Alegre, in the southern region of Espírito Santo, on Friday night (23). Five days after the tragedy that left at least 20 dead and trails of destruction in more than ten cities, the owner of the vehicle, Suzy Olmo, 59 years old, is still appealing to find the car. According to the retiree, inside the trunk there were several objects of sentimental value.

“In the trunk there was a suitcase with several valuables, like some pieces from my mother who recently passed away,” he told g1.

Videos recorded by residents, neighbors of the retiree, show the vehicle being dragged by the force of the current. The car was parked on Rua Doutor Porfírio de Souza Freire, in the Vila Viana neighborhood, close to the city center.

In other images, the vehicle is filmed heading towards a bridge that passes over the Rio Alegre. In the recording, you can see that, in addition to a lot of water, the current was already passing over the structure.

That’s where the car was taken and disappeared. According to the owner, the vehicle fell into the river and has not yet been located.

“I don’t know what happened. He could have been taken to a nearby dam or he could still be at the bottom of the river. Either way, the only thing that interests me is the suitcase,” he said.

Wrong day at the wrong time

According to the owner of the vehicle, she lives in Vitória, but goes to the city, which is in the south of Espírito Santo, to manage two of her daughters’ properties only once a month or even more frequently.

“Here there is someone who takes care of them, but I always come because I’m retired and it’s easier for me. Besides, I come to see the dogs. I came on Friday and my idea was to leave on Sunday, the 24th, but all this happened”, commented the owner.

Suzy also said that she took advantage of being at the house to collect belongings from her mother who passed away in 2020. The objects were placed in the trunk of the vehicle to be taken back to the Capital, where the retiree currently lives.

“There were clothes from my mother who passed away in 2020. I wanted to take them to my house. There was also a car seat belonging to my granddaughter… I have already filed a police report, I have already contacted the insurance company and the car issue will be resolved I just want the suitcase”, he lamented.

The retiree also said that the first floor of the house where she was staying was also hit by the strong storm. In the city, many people were left homeless and homeless, having to leave their properties.

“We lost beds, mattresses… On the second floor, there were only five steps left for the water to reach”, he commented.

The retiree told the g1 who will stay in the city to try to find the vehicle until March 31st.

Between Friday night (22) and Saturday morning (23), a strong storm hit the southern region of Espírito Santo and some cities recorded 300 millimeters of rain. Until 11 am this Wednesday (26), the tragedy in the state had left at least 20 dead, 2 missing and more than 19,900 people out of their homes. The state government declared a state of emergency in 13 municipalities.

Many families lost everything. The force of the water was great. He broke walls, tore down the walls of homes, invaded stores, schools and public buildings, and dragged cars and trucks. In addition to lives lost, the damage includes the loss of clothes, furniture and documents. In the most affected places, there are also reports of lack of energy, water and even food.
