The deadline for early payment of the Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax (IPVA) 2024 ends on Thursday (28/3), the last working day of the month (due to Good Friday) and before the bank holiday. Vehicle owners who make payments in March are guaranteed discounts of up to 20.80%.
In addition to the 1% deduction for the advance, it is possible to receive a reduction through the Bom Motorista discounts – which can reach 15% for those who have not committed a traffic violation for three years – and the Bom Cidadão discount – which can offer up to 5 % for anyone who has at least 150 invoices with CPF issued between November 1, 2022 and October 30, 2023.
Taxpayers who are paying the tax in stages through Pix need to generate, every month, a new QR Code to pay the installment. To maintain the installment plan, payments must be made within the stipulated deadlines.
To check the IPVA value or generate the QR Code, you must access the IPVA website. IPVA RS or the application available on the App Store or Google Play. It is important to be aware of scams: before making the payment, you must verify the recipient’s information.
Expiration according to the end of the card
The tax is due from the penultimate week of April, between the 24th and 30th, according to the schedule established by the State Revenue Service. The taxpayer who pays the tax next month will not have the advance discount, but will receive the Bom Driver and Bom Cidadão reductions until the plate’s expiration date, if they are entitled to the benefits.
Good Driver Discount
Discounts for good drivers are maintained as in previous years and vary in three ranges depending on the period without traffic violations committed. For drivers who did not have a record of infractions in the State’s information systems in the period between November 1, 2020 and October 31, 2023 (three years), the reduction will be 15%.
Anyone who has not had a fine after November 1, 2021 (two years) receives a 10% discount and, after November 1, 2022 (one year), 5%.
Good Citizen Discount (NFG)
Also in three bands, the reduction in the value of IPVA by Bom Cidadão results from the participation of the taxpayer (individual) in the Gaúcha Invoice Program (NFG) and the request for invoices with CPF at the time of purchase.
The maximum discount of 5% will be for those who have 150 notes or more, 3% for those who have between 100 and 149 notes and 1% for taxpayers with between 51 and 99 duly registered tax documents. In total, 31% of the taxable fleet will be entitled to the benefit.
How to pay
The owner must present the Renavam code and the car’s license plate at accredited banks or to generate a QR Code. Check the IPVA value and pay for your vehicle. Along with the IPVA, it is possible to pay the licensing fee and traffic fines.
Where to pay
The options are Banrisul, Bradesco (account holders only), Sicredi, Sicoob, Banco do Brasil (account holders only) and Caixa Econômica Federal lottery outlets. Payment via Pix is also available in more than 760 institutions. The taxpayer must observe the opening hours of the chosen financial institution, in its various service channels, so as not to miss payment deadlines.
