The Metrology, Conformity Assessment, Innovation and Technology Agency of the State of Tocantins (AEM), delegated body to the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), concluded this Monday, 25th, Operation Easter, in the Pre -Measured, with metrological tests carried out in the agency’s laboratories.

Operation Easter began on February 26, with visits to wholesale and retail commercial establishments to collect products related to Easter: chocolate eggs, pascal colomba, chocolate bars, chocolate boxes, packages of mini eggs.

This Monday, technicians from the Metrology Agency tested 65 products from five brands and a batch of 13 products from one manufacturer failed. In the amount of the Operation, 80% of the brands tested in the trials were approved. Only one brand (and its entire batch of products) showed discrepancies in measurements and was rejected due to weighing.

According to the president of AEM, Jerônimo Júnior, the results obtained in the laboratory analyzes of Operation Easter indicate that the action of Legal Metrology is extremely necessary. “Our job is to ensure that the consumer receives a product with truthful information on the labels. Today, around 85% or more of what we buy are pre-measured goods and AEM’s action is essential to ensure that the consumer is always respected”, informed the president.

It is worth highlighting that a pre-measured product is one that is packaged and measured without the presence of the consumer and is in commercial conditions.

Laboratory analysis process

To carry out the laboratory tests, products of different sizes, shapes and brands were collected and, in compliance with Inmetro regulations, thirteen units of each product were collected. All were unpacked, weighed and recorded on the State Metrology Agency’s own scale. The tests were attended by representatives of the manufacturers, who monitored the work of the AEM technical team.

Fine and administrative process

Of the products tested in Operation Easter, only one brand and its batch of thirteen goods were rejected due to discrepancies in weighing. It is a chocolate egg, in which the weight verified was below the Maximum Allowable Error (Ema). In this case, the manufacturer will be fined and will have a defense period.

Consumer must be aware

Consumers who find products that do not comply with Inmetro’s guidelines can contact the State Metrology Ombudsman’s Office via email –[email protected]. and by phone (63) 3218-2076.

The president of AEM reinforces that “the department’s actions aim to ensure the quality of goods, such as inspection of products related to the date, with visits to wholesale and retail commercial establishments, neighborhood markets, companies specialized in the segment to check whether they are within the standards established by law”, highlighted Jerônimo Júnior.
