Mato Grosso do Sul has the second highest divorce rate in the country – Dourados Agora

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE released today (27), the Civil Registry Statistics for the year 2022. The results presented refer to records of live births, marriages, deaths and fetal deaths, reported by the Registry Offices Civil of Natural Persons, and of divorces, declared by the Family Courts, Forums or Civil Courts and the Notary Offices, which, by virtue of Law no. minors or incapacitated. Below are some highlights for Mato Grosso do Sul.

On average, men divorce at older ages than women. In 2022, at the date of divorce, men were, on average, 43 years old, while women were 40 years old.

In the State, in 2010, the average time between the date of marriage and the date of the divorce decree or deed was 17.1 years. In 2022, there was a decrease in the duration of marriage to 11.6 years, being the 3rd shortest time among the Federation Units.

It was observed that the highest proportion of separations occurred in families with only minor children, which reached 44.8%. Next are families without children (34.2%); families with only older children (14.4%); and with older and younger children (6.5%).

  • MS has the 3rd shortest marriage duration among the Federation Units, at 11.6 years.
  • 44.8% of divorces occurred in families with only minor children.
  • The proportion of shared custody among parents with minor children in the state jumped from 9.51% in 2014
    to 34.2% in 2022.

MS records a drop in the number of live births
Mato Grosso do Sul showed a 3.6% reduction in the number of births registered in 2022 (40,973) compared to 2021 (42,504 people). The number places MS in 19th place among the Federation Units. Nationally, there was a drop of 3.36%.

As for sex, both in MS, with 40,973 births, and in Campo Grande, with a total of 12,194, the number of male live births was greater than the number of female births.
