Holy Week in Bahia is marked by the traditional consumption of fish, driven by the actions of the State Government through the Regional Development and Action Company (CAR), which invests in the implementation and requalification of fish processing units. These investments aim to strengthen fish production, ensuring a constant supply throughout the year and generating income for family farmers and fishermen.
One of the highlighted units is the Xingozinho Fish Processing Unit, in Paulo Afonso, which after renovations and expansions is operating in accordance with the standards of the Brazilian System of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (SISBI-POA), focusing on tilapia local. With capacity to process up to five tons per day, it benefits 107 associated families and others in the region.
Another relevant unit is the fish processing agroindustry of Ingazeira, in Tapiramutá, which in addition to the works received a fish farming kit and an Aquaculture Recirculation System (RAS), meeting local demand and generating income for the community.
These initiatives reflect Bahia’s public policy strategy to strengthen family farming, integrating it into the consumer market and promoting rural development. Investments not only boost fish production, but also contribute to the economic and social development of rural communities, creating jobs and ensuring food security. The appreciation of aquaculture and artisanal fishing not only as economic activities, but as part of local culture and gastronomy, reinforces the state’s identity and tradition.
