President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) participated this Friday (April 26, 2024) in the inauguration of the company’s insulin factory biopharmaceutical Biomm, in Nova Lima (MG). During the speech, the PT member’s voice failed at least 3 times.
At the event, Lula had to pause his speech on more than one occasion to drink water. At times, the Chief Executive became emotional, such as when talking about his great-granddaughter Ana Lua, aged 7, who has type I diabetes. At others, it is not possible to say with certainty whether the president’s voice was choked by emotion or due to hoarseness.

A smoker for 50 years, Lula was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in 2011, shortly after leaving the Palácio do Planalto.
At the time, doctors considered that cancer could affect Lula’s voice, but close friends interviewed in 2022 by Power360 They stated that the former president’s hoarseness had always existed and had become more noticeable due to the intensity of the presidential campaign.
