PGE-RJ Gender Equality Commission Promotes Event to Debate Gender, Race and Mental Health

The Gender Equality Commission and the Center for Legal Studies of PGE-RJ promoted, this Monday (25/03), the academic event “Women’s Month: debating gender, race and mental health”, to celebrate the celebrations of month of March in which International Women’s Day is celebrated (08/03).

The event was opened by Attorney Carlos Edison, Head of Cejur, and the Vice-President of the Commission, Attorney Fernanda Mainier, who emphasized the importance of the topic.

Following this, the HR Management Advisor and Manager of the Quality of Life Laboratory, Tatiana Benjoino, presented the institution’s practices and transformations regarding the reception, listening and care of all members who need psychological care, currently materialized in the PGE-RJ Mental Health Center. The speakers participated in the table chaired by Attorney Heloá Paula and moderated by Attorney Cíntia Morgado, creator of the event.

Psychologist and professor Adriana Soares Sampaio presented her reflections on the history of black women’s struggle and mentioned the conditions that affect health unequally, highlighting how racism causes their fragility.

Psychologist and professor Melissa de Oliveira highlighted the importance of the care network as a more appropriate solution than the simple medicalization of bodies. Due to the complexity of the situation involving mental health and gender, the responses are also complex, suggesting, among other attempts, the leading role of women in driving solutions, the promotion of spaces for debate and exchange between women, public policies that support motherhood .

Finally, Public Defender Patrícia Magno highlighted the importance of access to justice in a broader sense, in alliance with other human rights, and called for instruments to make the human right to care effective. behold, women’s overload with the assumption of professional and personal responsibilities compromises their well-being in public and private spaces.
