Indigenous person is murdered in Xokleng territory in SC | Santa Catarina

An indigenous leader from the Bonsucesso community, which belongs to the Xokleng territory, in Santa Catarina, was murdered on Friday night (26).

Ariel Paliano26 years old, was found dead on the side of the road between Itaiópolis, in the north of the state, and José Boiteux, in the Itajaí Valley. There is a recovery of the area at the site. The information was confirmed by the presiding chief, Setembrino Camlem.

Deputy chief of the community, according to Setembrino, the young man was found with injuries to his head and his body was partially burned.

According to reports from the community, Pauliano was the victim of an ambush when he left home to buy food at a grocery store. The shack where the victim lived with his family was set on fire.

The Federal Police and Funai were called and headed to the location this Saturday. As of 3pm, teams had not arrived at the scene. A PF informed that it will open an investigation to investigate the case. He also said that he is still investigating the previous attacks.

The Federal Public Ministry was also contacted and said that will ask the Military Police for assistance in securing the location, which has already been the target of gun attacks three times.
