The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a danger alert for high temperatures in six Brazilian states, including Minas Gerais. According to the agency, in the Triângulo Mineiro, temperatures are expected to be 5ºC above average from this Saturday (April 27th) until May 1st, reaching almost 40ºC. Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, São Paulo and Paraná will also be affected.

Still according to Inmet, temperatures are expected to be above 30ºC in almost all Brazilian capitals, including Belo Horizonte, this weekend.

This is the fourth heat wave experienced in the country this year. According to Climatempo, this occurs because of an area of high average atmospheric pressure, which acts as an atmospheric blockage. This scenario favors the maintenance of hot and dry air, causing high temperatures.

“One of the characteristics of this system is to intensify the air from top to bottom, inhibiting the formation of clouds and favoring the intensification of heat. This contributes to raising temperatures day after day, even though it is autumn, a time when temperatures tend to drop. The lack of a mass of cold air strong enough to cause a significant change in weather conditions maintains the dominance of hot air over a large part of the country”, he informed.
