Resources aimed at the Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (Cbaf) include medications for disease symptoms and other health conditions of the population in primary care

Facade of the Ministry of Health – Disclosure/MS

The Ministry of Health will allocate R$4 million to increase federal financial resources for the Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (Cbaf) in the Unified Health System (SUS) for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The initiative includes medicines that treat symptoms of dengue and other diseases that affect the Brazilian population in Primary Health Care.

Resources for Cbaf are calculated based on population data and will be transferred to finance the acquisition of medicines and supplies included in the National List of Essential Medicines (Rename). The budget will be restored, exceptionally, in a single installment and payment should occur in the next few days.

“We have largely replenished the basic care budget with a retroactive increase of 26% for the whole of last year. In other words, the investment went from R$ 1.2 billion to 1.5 billion. These resources should be available this week to all Brazilian municipalities”, explains the Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Health Economic-Industrial Complex, Carlos Gadelha.

The announcement of the increase was made on Wednesday (21), during an update to the press on the epidemiological scenario of dengue in Brazil. The measure adds to the financial support of more than R$79 million made available by the Ministry of Health to states and municipalities to face health emergencies, including dengue.

Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (Cbaf)

The Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance is responsible for promoting citizen access to medicines and supplies for the treatment of the main health problems and conditions of the Brazilian population in Primary Health Care. These items are listed in annexes I and IV of the current Rename and its acquisition occurs in a centralized manner (responsibility of the Union) and decentralized (responsibility of the states, the Federal District and the municipalities).
