The new regional minimum wage in Santa Catarina has a new value: R$1612.26. The announcement was made on Monday night (25) on the social networks of governor Jorginho Mello (PL).
“Our state pays in four ranges ranging from R$1,612 to R$1,844.40. Thus, we have one of the highest regional minimum wages in the country”, commented the post. The federal minimum wage is R$1412.00.
Agreement
The adjustment was the result of an agreement between workers and employers. Only five Brazilian states adopt the regional salary floor and in Santa Catarina it is the 14th year in which those involved have reached an agreement without litigation.
“This is a win for workers in Santa Catarina and it demonstrates maturity, responsibility, public spirit in building proposals like this that will benefit the working class. So I will forward it urgently. This is the commitment I made, to ask President Mauro de Nadal (from Alesc) to deliberate as quickly as possible, because the base date is January 2024,” said governor Jorginho Mello.
The employer class was led by the president of the Federation of Industries of Santa Catarina (Fiesc) Mario Cezar de Aguiar. “It is a broad discussion about values, but in a respectful and harmonious way, after long discussions a result is reached. So we came here to the governor to ask as a matter of urgency to send this project to the Legislative Assembly so that we can then receive approval from the State Government, which was negotiated between the parties involved,” he said.
The workers’ delegation was led by the director of the Federation of Commercial Workers of Santa Catarina (Fecesc), Ivo Castanheira. He explains that conversations begin in November and involve several factors. “Normally the negotiation committee has around 15 to 20 people on each side in the negotiation with advisors, economists analyzing the situation and we have a very respectful discussion between the parties. I think this has evolved a lot”, said Castanheira.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 18 employers’ or workers’ entities and by the Secretaries of State for Finance, Cleverson Siewert and for the Civil House, Marcelo Mendes.
Minimum wage ranges
The update of first track of the regional floor resulted in a value of R$1,612.26, compared to R$1,521 last year. This range is valid for the agriculture and livestock sectors, extractive and processing industries, fishing and aquaculture companies, domestic employees, civil construction, musical instrument and toy industries, equestrian establishments and motorcyclist employees, motorcycle couriers, and transport in general ( except drivers).
A second track goes from R$1,576 to R$1,670.56. The range includes the clothing, footwear, spinning, weaving, leather goods industries; paper, cardboard, cork and furniture, in addition to newspaper and magazine distributors and sellers (newsstands), newspaper and magazine street vendors, administration of companies that own newspapers and magazines and communications and telemarketing companies.
To the third track salary increases from R$ 1,669 to R$ 1,769.14 in 2024. This range is applicable to workers in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, cinema, food, commerce in general and employees of independent commerce agents.
The negotiated value for the fourth track goes from R$ 1,740 to R$ 1,844.40 This range includes workers in the metallurgical, mechanical, electrical material, graphics, glass, crystals, mirrors, jewelry and precious stone cutting industries, ceramics and porcelain, artifacts rubber; private insurance and capitalization companies and autonomous private insurance and credit agents; residential, commercial and similar buildings and condominiums, in tourism and hospitality; educational, cultural, health services and data processing establishments, as well as transport drivers in general.
The regional floor of SC
Santa Catarina’s minimum salary was established by Complementary Law 459, of September 30, 2009, valid for the year 2010. In all 14 subsequent years, the values were negotiated and agreed between entities representing employers and workers. With four salary ranges, the regional minimum applies exclusively to employees who do not have a minimum salary defined in federal law, convention or collective bargaining agreement.
The values negotiated between the two parties are the basis for a complementary bill sent by the government to the Legislative Assembly.
