Belford Roxo – Belford Roxo City Hall, in partnership with Projeto Bem Estar, held the 2nd Run and Walk in the municipality at Praça da Piam, last Sunday (06), in reference to Labor Day. The event was attended by around 150 people, divided between children, adults and elderly people, who were residents of the city and other municipalities.

The objective was to combat sedentary lifestyle and encourage residents to practice physical exercise, taking advantage of the week that included Labor Day. At the end of the race, all participants received medals.

In total it was about a 5km walk, starting at Praça da Piam, heading to Avenida Atlântica, entering Rua Mauá and taking the entire Avenida Bob Kennedy, to then end on Avenida Piam back to Praça de Piam.

The Secretary of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Matheus Carneiro, was present at the race and highlighted the importance of exercising. “I’m very happy to see several people present here trying to have more and more healthy habits. It is essential that City Hall is always encouraging the practice of physical exercise for our citizens”, stressed Matheus, alongside councilor Igo Menezes.

Feeling of overcoming

Mesquita resident and nurse, Nathalee Pereira, 26, said that once she started running, she couldn’t stop. “Each race is always an internal fight with ourselves. We are anxious to reach the end and when we finish it gives us a feeling of overcoming”, she highlighted. “In addition to the physical part, I would say that exercising helps a lot with mental health, which I think is even more important”, concluded Nathalee.

Civil servant Marlon Freitas, 35, celebrated having finished the race in first place. “I wanted to thank you for participating in this sport, which is what I enjoy doing most”, he highlighted. “For me, the biggest importance is the issue of health. We have to take care of it with great care and care so that we have a healthy future in the long term”, concluded Marlon.
