In less than four months, 2024 is already the year with the highest number of dengue cases on the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul. According to data from the arbovirus panel of the State Department of Health (SES), consulted by the Litoral na Rede portal on Late this Thursday morning (25), the region has accumulated 573 diagnoses of the disease since January.

To give you an idea, this record represents 6.5 times more cases than those registered in the entire 2023, when there were 88. The number is still 4.5 times greater than the diagnoses in the entire 2022, which was then the one with the highest incidence of the disease in the region, with 124 confirmations.

In none of the previous years, between 2015 and 2021, did the North Coast have more than eight cases of dengue. Another comparison that makes clear the greater advancement of the disease in 2024 is that the number of diagnoses until April 25 is more than double all cases confirmed over 9 years, from 2015 and 2023, with a total of 242 in the region.

In addition to the cases confirmed this year, there are another 930 under investigation, awaiting test results.

Of the 23 municipalities on the North Coast, only four had no records of the disease in 2024: Capivari do Sul, Itati, Mampituba and Tavares. Those with the most cases are: Torres (160), Imbé (101), Capão da Canoa (82), Santo Antônio da Patrulha (71) and Tramandaí (50).
