Porto Alegre Airport will be closed until May 30

-

Fraport, concessionaire of Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre, informed the Brazilian Air Force that the resumption of operations should only occur after May 30th. The previous estimate indicated that the terminal would be released this Friday (10/5).

The operator points out that the situation may still change, but according to the report delivered to the FAB after the waters receded, it will be necessary to assess the conditions of both the aircraft’s landing, take-off and taxi runways and the passenger terminals, which also had the first floor taken by flood waters.

Airlines have not yet announced flight cancellations after next Friday, but are expected to announce cancellations in the coming hours and follow the guidance of the terminal operator.

See the note released by the Porto Alegre Airport concessionaire:

“Fraport Brasil informs that operations at Porto Alegre Airport remain suspended for an indefinite period. To comply with airport legislation, today (6/5), a NOTAM (Notice to Airman) was issued with an end date of 30/5, which is an internationally recognized document, which has the purpose of disclosing changes and temporary restrictions that may have an impact on air operations. This notice is intended for aviation-related companies and institutions and may be changed at any time. We clarify that there is no forecast for the resumption of operations.

We ask that you follow the information on the airport’s official channels”
