Project expands health plan coverage for autoimmune diabetes – News

Bill 690/24 expands mandatory health plan coverage for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 1 (autoimmune). The text, under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, changes the Health Plans Law.

Diabetes mellitus It is a metabolic syndrome of multiple origins, resulting from a lack of insulin or the inability of this hormone to exert effects on the body. It is characterized by permanent high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).

According to the proposal under analysis, health plans must expand coverage of medicines for home use, in addition to including other inputs and technologies relevant to the effective management of the disease.

“The objective is to improve the quality of life of the millions of Brazilians affected by diabetes and align supplementary healthcare with growing demands”, said the author of the proposal, deputy Ricardo Ayres (Republicanos-TO).

Next steps
The project is underway in conclusive character and will be analyzed by the Consumer Protection committees; of health; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
