The woman who allegedly inspired the character of a stalker in the Netflix series “Baby Rena” has accused the series’ creator, Richard Gadd, of turning her into a target of online harassment. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, she declared: “He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now. I’m the victim. He wrote a bloody series about me.”

“Baby Reindeer” portrays the relationship between Gadd, who also acts as the protagonist, and an older woman who begins to pursue him. Since its launch, the series has reached 13 million views and topped rankings in 30 countries.

“They saw me as this crazy woman on the show, and now I’m getting death threats and insults every day,” the woman said. She also highlighted the invasion of her privacy: “My life was exposed without my consent. How can I not be the victim here?”

West Midlands Police intervened after false accusations and threats made on social media escalated, according to reports. Gadd, in turn, defended the series’ intention: “The intention was never to harm, but to highlight the seriousness of harassment.” He appealed to viewers in an Instagram post: “Please do not speculate about who the real people are. It distracts from the purpose of our production.”

The woman, who considers the action legal, criticized Gadd’s response: “It’s easy to say it’s for awareness when you’re not the target of the consequences,” she said. (Estadão Conteúdo)
