The new 6 pm soap opera hasn’t started yetbut it’s already giving problems for Globo. The broadcaster failed to register the trademark “In Rancho Fundo”, title of the serial, and ended up giving up.

The imbroglio began after the Ary Barroso Productions presented opposition to Globo’s request at the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inpi).

The broadcaster filed the registration request on September 26, 2023. However, two months later, the producer contested the request.

The company is owner of the artistic legacy of Ary Barroso, one of the authors of the famous song that gives the soap opera its name. The other composer is Lamartine Babo.

Given this scenario, Globo filed a petition giving up the brand. Despite the fact, the broadcaster confirmed to the Splash column that “everything is fine” and that the The title of the next 6 pm soap opera will be “No Rancho Fundo”.

This is because title and brand are different. The first is part of the work and the second is a kind of visual symbol. The brand needs to be registered, but copyright does not depend on registration.

“Elas por Elas” also had problems with registration

“No Rancho Fundo” premieres on April 15th and will replace “They with They”what also had problems with trademark registration.

The soap opera, written by Mario Teixeira and Allan Fiterman, is a romantic comedy that takes place in the present day, in the fictional district of Lasca Fogo in Cariri, Paraíba.
