The company AstraZeneca announced the end of production and distribution of the vaccine against Covid-19 worldwide. According to the pharmaceutical company, the measure would be due to the “surplus of available vaccines” since the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020. The entity also said that the production of other immunizers against the disease also caused a reduction in demand for the vaccine.
“As several Covid-19 vaccines and variants have been developed, there is a surplus of updated vaccines available,” he said.
The company’s announcement comes after the voluntary withdrawal request made last March 5, which came into force this Tuesday (7). In Brazil, the AstraZeneca vaccine is produced by Fiocruz after technology transfer formalized in June 2021.
On the 30th, the pharmaceutical company recognized a rare side effect in the Covid-19 vaccine. The information was added in a collective initiative driven by people who were diagnosed with thrombosis after vaccination in England. Around 51 families are asking for compensation of R$700 million in the process.
