Santos holds another flu vaccination D-Day on Saturday

-

The Santos Health Department will hold another D-Day flu vaccination this Saturday (4). All polyclinics in the City will be open from 9am to 3:30pm offering doses against the disease in the campaign, which now serves people of all age groups from 6 months of age.

Those who wish can also take advantage of D-Day to update their vaccination card with the other immunization agents in the National Vaccination Calendar, except in the Penha, Monte Serrat, Martins Fontes, Vila Progresso and Santa Maria units, which will only be offering against the flu.

The bivalent vaccine against Covid-19, used as a booster, which is in short supply, and the BCG vaccine, which has its own schedule from Monday to Friday in the units, will not be administered this Saturday. Vaccination against Covid-19 normally continues for children aged 5 to 11 and for those who have not started the vaccination schedule or are waiting for the second dose of the primary vaccination schedule.

“We will hold D-Day to further facilitate access for the new public, for people who work on weekdays, for children who spend a lot of time at school, in short, for all residents who are unable to attend polyclinics during the week to get vaccinate”, explains the Secretary of Health of Santos, Denis Valejo. Anyone who got the flu vaccine last year should get it again, as it is an updated vaccine according to the mutations of the most circulating Influenza viruses. The vaccine is trivalent, that is, it protects against three strains of the Influenza virus: Influenza A H1N1, Influenza A H3N2 and Influenza B.

NEW AUDIENCES

As of this Friday (3), the city of Santos began offering the flu vaccine to people of all age groups, from 6 months of age, in all polyclinics. Deane Anjos Melo, a 35-year-old self-employed person, wasted no time and went with her family to get vaccinated. She took her daughter Lorena, just 7 years old, who took the vaccine with a smile on her face and came out holding the syringe. “I didn’t feel any pain or fear, it was quick,” says the girl.

Deane enjoyed the first day of campaigning in front of the entire public, as he has a newborn son and worries about his family’s health. “The flu is a virus that affects everyone, as my son is premature, there is little care. The vaccine is a priority in my family.”

Sidney Vasconcelos, a 69-year-old retiree, also went to protect himself against the flu. “I take this vaccine every year, it’s been 5 years since I got sick thanks to it. Today we are seeing diseases return due to lack of vaccination, there is no justification for not wanting to be immunized”, he says.
