He died this Tuesday (26), Eloína Gonçalves Born, aged 102, the first person to receive the vaccine against Covid-19 in Rio Grande do Sul. She lived in a nursing home in Porto Alegre, but the cause of death was not disclosed.

On January 18, 2021, Eloína became a symbol of hope when she was the first vaccinated in the state, representing the elderly. In addition, other priority groups, such as indigenous people, health professionals and doctors, were also immunized in an event attended by authorities.

On the occasion of the vaccination, Eloína expressed her joy at receiving protection against the virus that took the lives of thousands of people. She shared the desire to resume her daily activities and walks through the streets.

Born on July 24, 1921, Eloína was the mother of two children, one of whom is now deceased, and had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She celebrated her centenary at Palácio Piratini, where she was received by governor Eduardo Leite. During the celebration, a musician from the Military Brigade band sang “Congratulations to You”, marking the special moment.
