Anitta refuses Met Gala invitation to be at Madonna’s show in Rio: ‘That’s all we talk about’

Anita declined the invitation to the Met Galaa charity ball held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York, which takes place next Monday, May 6th. The reason is illustrious: being on the show Madonna in Rio de Janeiro. In an interview with the American program ExtraTV, Anitta said it was important for her to be in Brazil at a “historic” moment.

There is speculation that the singer may make a special appearance at the Queen of Pop’s show, on Saturday, the 4th, on the sands of Copacabana, south of Rio, an event that is expected to bring together 1.5 million people.

“I’ve been to the Met Gala three times. It was really good, I want to go back next year. But this year, Madonna will do a show in Brazil, ending her tour, on Copacabana Beach. It’s for more than 1 million people. We have a song together in Portuguese, a funk song from Brazil, which is on her album”, said Anitta.

“When I was invited, I thought: I’m definitely going to be there. It’s very historic for my country. That’s all we talk about. So, for me, it is very important to be there at that moment”, she added, without making it clear whether she will just watch the show or whether she will be part of some special moment.

Will Anitta participate in Madonna’s show?

Although nothing is confirmed, fans speculate Anitta’s participation in Madonna’s show. All shows on the singer’s current tour, the Celebration Tour, featured a surprise appearance. During the song Vogue, Madonna calls out a personality who, in the show, is nicknamed “Ballroom B*tch”. Next to the star, the guest observes and “judges” the dancers.

Anitta was the first name considered, as the two worked together on the song Faz Gostoso, from 2019. On Tuesday, the 30th, columnist Lauro Jardim, from the newspaper O Globo, published that the Brazilian had been available to perform with Madonna . According to the columnist, the two may even sing the track, which does not appear on the tour’s official setlist. When contacted by Estadão, Anitta’s advisors said they had “nothing to declare”.
