Alice says that this is a “process” that can be successful with more Brazilian judges at awards shows and with co-productions with countries like Mexico, Argentina and Spain. “[Temos que] Strengthen us as an industry. This is very important: for us to strengthen ourselves internally, vote correctly and, above all, accept that we are Ibero-Latin Americans.”

When citing the importance of government policies that support culture, Alice exposed conversations with Argentine colleagues in the artistic class, who oppose the far-right president Javier Milei. “Everyone is talking about the terror that Argentina is going through right now, and we just saw that.”

Gabriel Leone, who attended the awards with Alice Braga, lamented the fact that Brazilians were only present as presenters at the awards or in international co-productions. He said the choice has been “a constant.” “I understand that we are rebuilding ourselves, but I think it is a warning […] It’s worth our reflection. It’s up to us, with all the size of the country we have, the cultural richness, diversity and power, to organize ourselves to be more present and have more strength.”
