In a rare public appearance, actress Eva Mendes, 50, gave an interview to the Today program and discussed her family dynamics with her longtime partner, Ryan Gosling, 43. Together since 2011 and parents to Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7, the couple is known for their discretion and for rarely sharing details of their personal lives.
Mendes, who stepped away from acting in 2014 to dedicate himself to his daughters, revealed that the decision was made together with Gosling. “It was like it was obvious,” she said of taking primary responsibility for the children. “I’m very lucky… I thought, ‘if I can have this time with my daughters…’ And I still continued working, I just didn’t act because acting takes you to different places, takes you away.”

The actress described an unspoken agreement between the couple: “It was almost like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘Okay, he’s going to work and I’m going to work, except I’m going to work here.'” She took the opportunity to praise Gosling’s professionalism and dedication: “I’ve never experienced anything like this. The way he works, his commitment to his art, how he wants to do everything in the best way possible, and that means making his co-stars better too . But unfortunately — or fortunately — there’s only one Ryan!”
