The deadline for delivery of the Annual Declaration of Simples Nacional for Individual Microentrepreneurs (DASN-SIMEI) it is approaching. Until may 31st 2024, all MEIs must send their declarations for the year 2023. This document is mandatory for all MEIs, regardless of whether they have registered revenue or not.

What is the MEI annual declaration?

A Annual Declaration of Simples Nacional (DASN-SIMEI) is a document that all Individual Microentrepreneurs must send to the Federal Revenue Service. This declaration must include the total income obtained in the previous year. It is crucial that entrepreneurs are attentive to the details of their revenue, recording all forms of payment received, whether cash, credit card, debit or Pix.

How to make the declaration without errors?

Maintaining meticulous control of financial transactions throughout the year is essential. Using a spreadsheet to record these transactions in detail can simplify the declaration process. It is also recommended that MEIs do not wait until the last minute to send their declaration, in order to avoid problems such as instabilities in the Federal Revenue systems.

Step by step to send DASN-SIMEI

  1. Access the Simples Nacional page on the Federal Revenue website.
  2. Enter your CNPJ and select the year of the declaration to be sent (2023).
  3. Enter the value of Total Gross Revenue, detailing the operations according to the type of activity (commercial, services, etc.).
  4. Check whether employees were hired during the period.
  5. Review all completed information to ensure data accuracy.
  6. Complete sending the declaration.

It is important to note that failure to deliver the DASN-SIMEI on time will result in a minimum fine of R$50. However, this fine can be reduced to R$25 if payment occurs within 30 days after completing the late declaration .

What happens if the declaration is not sent?

Failure to send the DASN-SIMEI can generate major complications for the MEI, including the CNPJ’s ineligibility. This inability prevents the carrying out of banking transactions and actions that depend on active CNPJ registration, which can significantly affect business management. Furthermore, debts are now linked to the microentrepreneur’s CPF, complicating future attempts to obtain credit or financing.

Common questions about the MEI declaration

  • Any MEI can send the declaration, even if they had no income in the previous year.
  • MEIs that have ceased their activities also need to declare, opting for the “Special Situation” when filling out.
  • There is the possibility of rectifying information in the declaration the following year, in case of errors or mistaken issuance of the “Special Situation”.

Raising all these points highlights the importance of MEI fulfilling this annual obligation. Therefore, it is vital that all Individual Microentrepreneurs are aware of the deadline and procedures necessary for the correct declaration of the DASN-SIMEI, thus ensuring the healthy continuity of their business activities.
