Aena launched an unprecedented program to encourage more sustainable flights at Congonhas Airport, benefiting the environment and residents who live close to the aerodrome.
The project intends to encourage operations carried out with more energy-efficient aircraft, which consume less fuel and generate less noise. The discounts will be applied through a refund paid to the airlines, up to a limit of R$1 million for flights carried out between April and October 2024.
The Aena program provides for a 10% refund on landing fees made between April and October 2024, up to a limit of R$1 million. The incentive is valid for Boeing 737 MAX, Airbus A320neo and Embraer E195-E2 model aircraft, operated by the three main Brazilian airlines. At the end of the period, Aena will analyze the feasibility of its extension.
“Taking care of the environment and reducing impacts generated in the airport region is Aena’s commitment. In addition to encouraging airlines, we have several sustainable projects for the modernization of Congonhas Airport in the coming years”, says Marcelo Bento, director of Institutional Relations and Communication at Aena Brasil.
Aena is expected to begin work to modernize Congonhas Airport at the end of 2024, with completion scheduled for June 2028. The project provides for greater passenger comfort, better road traffic flow and more efficient operations, with the redesign of the aircraft apron and taxiways.
Regarding sustainability, among other improvements, the following are planned:
– New electrical substation and more electrical equipment, using clean energy;
– Reduction in the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions, with energy and air conditioning services for aircraft on boarding bridges and fuel distribution through pipelines, avoiding the use of trucks;
– Full recycling of solid waste and water treatment and reuse plant;
– Efficient refrigeration and air conditioning system; – More natural lighting.
