The Chinese company specializing in smartphones officially launched the SU7, which costs US$30,000

The Chinese company Xiaomi, a giant in the smartphone sector, announced this Wednesday (April 3, 2024) that it had received more than 100 thousand orders for the SU7, the first electric vehicle manufactured by the brand. The model drew attention because it resembles Tesla cars, which currently leads the EV market.

After the sale of 5,000 cars from the exclusive “Founder’s Edition” initial collection, Xiaomi estimates a period of at least 4 months for the production of a new fleet. With the growth in demand for automobiles, the company’s shares rose by 16% on Tuesday (April 2).

The SU7, short for Speed Ultra 7, hits the market starting at US$30,000, a lower price than competing EVs. The car’s distinguishing feature is the smart panel, which can connect to the smartphone, the main product sold by Xiaomi.

Through X (formerly Twitter), Lei Jun, founder of the company, said that he was “Excited to get the 1st batch of Xiaomi SU7 into the hands of owners.”
