The director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) Ricardo Tilli stated this Tuesday, 2, during a board meeting, that the agency is unable to supervise the entire electricity sector. “Aneel has a workforce designed for 25 years ago, which was structured to serve a much smaller electricity sector than it is today,” he said.

The speech was made during the discussion that approved the opening of a public consultation on the decentralization of inspection services. The objective is to define the delegations of Aneel’s powers to the States and the Federal District for activities under the associated management of public services.

“If we do not create mechanisms that can decentralize, that can count on support from state agencies, we will reach the point, once again, of not being able to supervise the electricity sector as a whole”, emphasized the director.

Tilli cited the specific case observed in the State of São Paulo, which has faced problems with the services provided by Enel. “The state agency has been the partner and carried out on-site inspection. Without them we would be in a worse situation than we are today,” she said.

Among the issues to be discussed in the public consultation is an increase in Aneel’s budget.
